Money help that makes sense the first time you read it.

Written for anyone who was never taught this and is quietly tired of pretending otherwise.

Most financial advice is written for people who already understand it. We write for everyone else — short guides, real examples, and a debt calculator that runs entirely in your browser. Nothing here needs an email address, and none of it is a sales pitch.

Your numbers stay yoursThe calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Guided match

What are you working on right now?

Three quick questions and we will point you at the guide that helps most, what to read after it, and one thing worth doing first. It all happens in this page — nothing is sent anywhere.

1 What is on your mind?
2 How much pressure is on?
3 What matters more to you?

Your tailored start

Answer the first question

Tell us what you are working on and we will point you at the guide that helps most, the one to read after it, and one thing worth doing first.

  • Do this first—

A guided suggestion based on what you picked — general information, not financial advice, and not a recommendation about any product.

How it works

Three steps, no account required

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy. This is the whole process.

1

Find the guide that fits

Use the guided match above, or just read the five guides in any order. Each one is about six minutes and written to be understood the first time.

2

Run it on your own numbers

The debt payoff tool compares the snowball and the avalanche on your actual balances, rates and minimums — entirely inside your browser.

3

Decide for yourself

You leave with the arithmetic and the trade-offs in plain English. Nobody calls you, nothing gets sold to you, and there is no next step you have to take.

Free tool

Snowball or avalanche? Compare them on your own numbers.

Enter what you owe, the interest rates and the minimum payments. The tool runs both payoff strategies month by month and shows you the difference in time and in interest. It never leaves your browser.

Both methods, side by side

Snowball attacks the smallest balance. Avalanche attacks the highest rate. You see the payoff date and the total interest for each, on one shared scale.

Your actual payoff order

Not just a total — the order the accounts clear in, so you know what you are working on first and what comes next.

Nothing is stored

It is plain JavaScript in the page. No account, no upload, no cookie, no record of the balances you typed.

Everyday money

Built around the way people actually spend

A budget that assumes you never buy lunch, never forget a birthday and never have a bad week is a budget that fails in week three. The approach we teach starts with what your last two months actually looked like.

  • Look backwards first. Two months of statements tell you more than any budgeting template ever will.
  • Give irregular costs a monthly home. Car repairs and annual renewals are not surprises; they are just badly timed.
  • Leave slack on purpose. A plan with no room in it breaks the first time life happens.
  • Review monthly, not daily. Daily tracking burns people out faster than overspending does.

Straight about ourselves

What we are, and what we are not

No badges, no five-star rows, no invented statistics. Here is the honest version instead.

We are not a lender

We publish information. We do not lend money, set rates, approve applications or service accounts. If you ask us to, we can introduce you to independent providers — and we will tell you when we are doing that.

No invented numbers

You will not find made-up research or fake customer quotes here. Where we use figures they are worked examples showing the arithmetic, and we label them that way.

Free means free

No paywall, no email gate on the guides, and no selling your contact details to marketing lists. An account is optional and exists only to save your reading progress.

Common questions

Straight answers

Does checking my own credit hurt my score?

No. Looking at your own report is a soft inquiry and has no effect at all. Only a lender’s hard inquiry, made when you apply for credit, can move a score — and even then only slightly, for a limited time. More on credit scores.

Should I save or pay off debt first?

Usually a small starter cushion first, then the debt. Without any cushion, the next unexpected bill goes straight back onto the card you just paid down — and you end up running very hard to stay in the same place. More on emergency funds.

Is closing an old credit card a good idea?

Often not. Closing an account removes its available limit, which can push up how much of your total credit you appear to be using — and utilisation is a large part of most scores. Read why utilisation matters.

How do I know if a loan is a bad idea?

If it covers a shortfall that will still be there next month, it is usually a bad idea. Borrowing works when it buys something durable or bridges a gap you can point to on a calendar. The four questions to ask.

Do you sell my information?

No. We do not sell contact details to marketing lists. The debt calculator does not send your numbers anywhere at all — it is plain JavaScript running inside your own browser, and nothing you type is transmitted or stored. If you write to us, we use your message to answer it. Our privacy notice spells this out.

Are you a lender, or will you try to sell me something?

Neither. We are not a lender, a bank, or a credit repair organization. We publish information. If you specifically ask to be introduced to an independent provider we will say plainly that is what we are doing, and you are free to say no. Nothing on this site is an offer of credit or a commitment to lend.

What does any of this cost?

Nothing. There is no paywall, no email gate on the guides and no charge for the calculator. An account is optional; it exists only to keep track of what you have read. More about how we operate.

Not sure where to start?

Start with the money you keep, not the money you owe. The emergency fund guide takes about six minutes and it is the one that changes the rest.
