The debt calculator sends us nothing
The payoff comparison tool is plain JavaScript running inside your browser. The balances, rates and payments you type are never transmitted to our server, never stored, and are gone when you close the tab. We could not see them if we wanted to.
What we collect
- When you write to us: your name, email address, the topic you selected and the message you wrote.
- If you create an account: your name, email address and a one-way cryptographic hash of your password. We never store the password itself and cannot recover it — only reset it.
- Automatically: ordinary web server logs, including IP address, the page requested and the time of the request.
We do not ask for and do not want your Social Security number, account numbers, card numbers or copies of financial documents. Please do not send them.
Why we use it
- To answer your question and, if needed, follow up on it.
- To run the optional account area and keep you signed in.
- To keep the site secure and to investigate abuse.
- To meet legal and record-keeping obligations.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who host the site or deliver our email, acting on our instructions.
- An independent provider, if and only if you have asked us to introduce you to one. We will tell you at the time. That provider then handles your information under its own privacy policy.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Cookies and tracking
We set one cookie, and only after you sign in to the account area: a session identifier that keeps you logged in and expires when you sign out or close the browser. We do not run advertising cookies, cross-site trackers or behavioural profiling. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of serving them.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Email [email protected] and we will respond within the time applicable law allows. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell or share it in the first place, but the right stands and we honour it.
Retention and security
Messages are kept only as long as needed to handle the enquiry and meet our obligations. Accounts persist until you ask us to delete them. Passwords are stored as salted hashes and access to enquiry records is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach occurs we will notify affected people and regulators as required.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the effective year above. See also our Terms of Use and how we are paid.
